OUR PHILOSOPHY
Rooted in the philosophy of Soo Yi ( 素逸 ) , our work explores the balance between restraint and ease. Simplicity is not emptiness, but a deliberate and refined expression.
“Soo” speaks to clarity and distilled form. It is the discipline of removing the unnecessary, allowing proportion, material, and light to emerge with precision.
“Yi” suggests a state of calm freedom. It embodies a way of living that escapes rules and routines, where spaces support a relaxed, more spontaneous rhythm of life.
Together, these ideas shape our design approach.
Rather than imposing a fixed aesthetic, we search for the defining qualities of each space — its quiet logic, its atmosphere, its sense of belonging. When that essence is found, design becomes a natural unfolding rather than a forced gesture.
Based in Vancouver and informed by East Asian spatial philosophy, Sooyi creates environments that feel timeless, composed, and human-centric.
Our work seeks not spectacle, but resonance — spaces that slowly reveal their allure, and remain meaningful over time.
